Thai Banana dishes up cheap tasty Thai food that will keep you coming back for more.

The Venue
Located on Wilmslow Road in the middle of studentsville, Thai Banana can be found between Fusion and Tesco Metro. It’s a small restaurant with simple decor and closely packed tables. A few plants line the glass panelled front and the lighting is quite bright. As for the colour scheme, everything is very beige with the odd mirror hanging on the wall.

The Atmosphere
The place gets fairly busy with lots of students popping in for a bite to eat. Thai music plays in the background and the atmosphere is pretty relaxed. The staff are friendly, however, it wouldn’t hurt to have more of them around on an evening as they always seem quite rushed and disorganised.

The Food and Drink
Thai Banana does authentic Thai food at very reasonable prices. The portions are always very generous and the menu has a good range of veggie and meat dishes. For starters you’ve got the likes of fish cakes (£4.50) or chicken satay (£3.95).

For mains you’ve got a selection of curries, stir-fry’s, noodle and rice dishes. The Thai green curry (£6.50) is particularly delicious, it’s packed with loads of flavour and has a good kick of chilli. A milder option is the massamun curry (£6.50) which is tasty and filling with plenty of potatoes bulking out the dish. If you like things spicy and are a big fish fan why not try their pla neung ma-now – it’s steamed sea bass with garlic, chilli and Thai herbs flavoured with fish sauce and lime juice. They also do express meals and noodles starting from £4.95, which are smaller portions of their classic dishes aimed at the really broke students. And, if you can’t decide what to choose off the menu, why not rock up to their all-you-can eat buffet, which takes place every Tuesday 5pm-11pm (£7.95), Friday 2pm-5pm (£5.95) and 5pm-11pm (£7.95), as well as Sunday (same deal as Friday).

Then to wash down your food you can choose from a refreshing Singha and Chang beer (£2.95), a glass or bottle of wine, one of the many soft drinks or a pot of green tea.

The Last Word
A great place to tuck into some tasty cheap Thai food. If you’re eating out in Fallowfield, Thai Banana is one of the better options combining fragrant food with great value for money.
