For authentic Nepalese and Northern Indian food, Namaste Nepal is a great choice if you want to enjoy a traditional curry bursting with flavour.

The Venue
Located on Burton Road, Namaste Nepal is one of three Nepalese restaurants in the heart of West Didsbury. From the road the large fully air conditioned restaurant has a dark panelled front and bright neon sign. Inside, the decor is simple and slightly dated with lots of navy and white dressed tables spaciously arranged around the room.

The Atmosphere
The place is very welcoming and the staff always provide a polite and relaxed service. If you’re having trouble deciding what to order, they also don’t mind offering advice on choosing dishes. As for the clientele, it’s generally local Didsbury folk, who return time and time again for a sit in meal or tasty take-away.

The Food
For starters, try the house specialty Momocha – steamed mince dumplings (£4.90). They are bursting with flavour and are served with a spicy sauce that has a real kick. Other starters include Shashlik (marinated meat on skewers with onion and peppers) or Tandoori Chops (£3.50). For mains, there is a good selection of chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes with the odd prawn one thrown in alongside the more unusual Kidney Masala.

Curries include Mis Mas Makhanwala, which is tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, chicken tikka and boti kebab cooked in butter with tomatoes and fresh cream (£8.80), or the exotic Sha-Shu-Ka: pieces of lamb or chicken cooked in special spices and garnished with mincemeat and green herbs (£6.50). Other popular choices are Himalaya Chicken, Tandoori Chops Karahi and Makhan Vegetables, which is a nice alternative for vegetarians used to potato and paneer heavy curries. There’s the usual Bhuna, Sag and Korma for those who want to play safe and for folk who can take the heat. The Khorsani Chicken (£6.90) is extremely spicy with plenty of fresh green chillies.

The Drink
If you fancy a pint to cool your mouth Tetleys, Carlsberg and Cobra are on draught. They also do bottled cider and a small selection of spirits and wine as well as the usual soft drinks.

The Last Word
Namaste Nepal serves up tasty, authentic Nepalese cuisine at very reasonable prices. A very reliable restaurant on the bustling West Didsbury strip.
