Mod Pop is a small retro style cafe serving lots of veggie delights. Its a quirky place to hang out in the midst of the colourful clothes and memorabilia of the adjoining shop.

The Venue
You can find the cafe underneath Pop Boutique on Oldham Street. As you venture downstairs, the space is split into half cafe, half shop. Think bright pink and purple retro wallpaper and 60s and 70s furniture. This place is old school with lots of vintage brick-a-brack thrown in. Head over to the counter to order your grub then sit back and take in the cool surroundings.

The Atmosphere
This place has a great 60s vibe, with the vintage decor and top northern soul tunes playing in the background. It’s very laid back and a good little hang out for an afternoon coffee break in the Northern Quarter. The crowd is young and trendy. Expect a fair few students, musicians and creative folk popping in. You will also catch Manchester Vegan Society meeting up here on the last Saturday of the month.

The Food
The grub is cheap and cheerful with plenty of vegetarian and vegan goodies on offer. You can grab a toasted ciabatta from £3.50; the Gaye Paris brings together brie, tomato and cranberry sauce and is a good combo. If you want something to pick at why not opt for the hummus plate. For £4.50 you get marinated olives, salad, warm pitta bread and loads of yummy homemade hummus to dunk into. More filling options include bangers and mash and the mega veggie all day breakfast (£4.50). Their Mod Pop Burger is a bargain at £3.75 and comes topped off with loads of salad. And they do a range of homemade scones and cakes if you want something sweeter. The tiramisu slice is particularly tasty with a good after kick of rum.

The Drink
You can grab a cup of tea for £1 or choose from the range of coffees on the blackboard. The hot chocolate is good with loads of squirty cream on top. If you want something a bit more refreshing, why not try one of their fresh smoothies (£2.80) or pick out a fruit juice from the fridge.

The Last Word
Oozing funky retro cool, Mod Pop Cafe is a cosy little corner great for a coffee and a catch up.
