The ViewManchester Review
A fairly new down-to-earth bar in Chorlton. Squeezed in between The Bar and Abode, it comes with a good range of exotic beers and has a Moroccan-style setting. The VenueA welcome addition to Chorlton’s bar scene is The Nook (formerly the much underrated Tom Toms). Its run by the lady who used to manage next door’s Abode (yes, Chorlton circles are very incestuous) and it’s a small (hence the name), rustic, bohemian, Moroccan-styled bar and features lots of patterned cushions and metal lanterns.
It’s all been done out by the owners and the floor is dark and the banquettes are red. The bar, which is at the end of the room, is blue-tiled. Down a narrow staircase is The Cranny with its Arabesque wooden screens, low stools and lots of cushions again.
The room is due to be extended with addition of a DJ booth and a dancing area, but it does already hosts DJ nights courtesy of local beardyman Kelvin Brown from Eyes Down (who can usually be found sitting outside The Bar, anyway), as well as private parties. There’s a small patio at the front with tables and electric heaters. Competition for these seats is fiercely competitive on sunny days.
The PeopleWith Abode next door so packed at times you can’t get in the door, The Nook attracts a much more chilled out crowd. Chorlton is full of too many DJs (not the act, but in numbers) and so any time of the day or night there’s likely to be a DJ or two hanging around as well as media types, college lecturers, general good sorts, booze hounds and wasters.
The Food and DrinkThere’s a wine list on a chalkboard by the bar and a good choice is the Spanish red Campo Nuevo Tempranillo at just £10.95 a bottle or £3.80 for a large glass. Beers on draught includes Guinness, Tuborg, Lowenbrau and Polish beer Okacim, and there’s Estrella, Singha, Cobra, Leffe, Cruzcena and Peroni in bottles, as well as Belgian speciality beer Timmerman’s Framboise and Timmerman’s Kriek.
The Last WordCome here to experience a taste of Chorlton lifestyle surrounded by cushions, good company and great exotic beers.
