The ViewManchester Review
Taurus is a bit more laid back and mellow than some of the other full-on bars down the Canal Street strip.
The Venue
There’s pavement seating directly outside and inside the place is quite intimate and homely and done out in ochre shades with red and dark blue walls.
The bar is at the end and there’s a raised seating are at the front. It has low lights and candles on the tables in the evening and the softer music gives people a chance to chat and catch up without shouting to make yourself heard, although it does go up a notch or two at weekends (but it’s still not tinnitus-inducing). Happy Hour is every day from 4pm-7pm. There’s the fabulously named Joseph Perrier lounge downstairs which is often hired out for private parties or events.
The People
A fairly mixed crowd covering all sexual persuasions from bisexual to transgender, as well as students, cheeky straight girls, dykes and muscle Marys.
The Food and Drink
San Miguel, Tetley’s, Moretti, Leffe, Hoegaarden, Guinness, Beck’s, Grolsch and Strongbow are on draught, while there’s Beck’s, Sol, Peroni and Bulmer’s in bottles. Cocktails are £3.50 each during happy hour (that goes for champagne cocktails too) and they include all the classics, with a Taurus favourite being the Strawberry Daiquiri (£5.50).
You can get a bottle of wine for £10.95(£6 in happy hour). There’s food on offer as well, with sandwiches, snacks, salads and main courses ranging from £8.50 to £13.95 (for a fillet steak). Check out the specials board first.
The Last Word
Taurus has an intimate and friendly vibe and is not too in-your-face - ideal for a chilled out time.
