The ViewManchester Review
The Famous Trevor Arms is a friendly pub on the increasingly hyped Beech Road in Chorlton. A historic pub, it’s frequented by a loyal, local crowd.
The Venue
The Trevor Arms is, and probably always will be, a locals’ pub serving the community. The locals care so much about this place that when thieves attempted to run off with the takings a while back, some of the regulars ran after them and managed to scare them sufficiently that they dropped all the loot round the corner on the green. Now that’s dedication for you.
Owned by Punch Taverns, it’s a traditional boozer with a modernized interior. With its central, tiled bar and upholstered semi-circular alcoves - it’s more of a spit’n’sawdust joint than upmarket pub. There’s Sky Sports on the TV throughout both the bar and the lounge and this is one of the major draws. Like most pubs, there was a dip in trade after the smoking ban was introduced, but now it’s picked up to previous levels, if not better. It’s a great place to come and watch the footie, if you get in early. Space is not abundant and when Utd play you’ll be lucky to get a seat.
The People
The Trevor Arms attracts a loyal old Chortlon crowd and is definitely more tabloid than broadsheet. It covers a fairly wide age range, with a younger crowd in the evening and weekends. In the bar though, it’s usually men of ale who prop up the bar. Drink in here on a regular and you’ll soon recognise the same faces at all times of the day and night.
The Food and Drink
Carling, John Smith’s, Foster’s, Stella and Guinness are on tap. Plus two guest ales on rotation - Theakston’s and Bateman’s on the last visit, and a new range is coming in. In bottles there’s San Miguel, Corona, Beck’s, Budweiser and Budvar, as well as the alcopops. Wines include the South African Cape Promise, Chilean Shiraz Caliterra and Australian Jacob’s Creek with a bottle of house wine costing £6.10 a bottle.
The Last Word
For a traditional pint with none of the airs or graces of some of the neighbouring Beech Road establishments, The Trevor Arms is just the ticket.
