Owned by the people behind One Central Street and the very popular Romp club event, Purple Pussycat is certainly different, in a sleazy electro kind of way!

The Venue
Located right next to Mojo sits Purple Pussycat, which only makes its presence known by the flashing neon cabaret dancer sign above the door. Once inside and down the stairs, this has the exact feel of a strip club. The rubber bar, the dark and dingy lighting and, oh yes, the pole on the stage which you will always see drunken girls dancing around (with their clothes on mind). Essentially this is a good-time after dark den and is open every night 5pm until 3am. The music varies but is always along the same lines of electro, house, funk and disco. The venue is fairly small and the lighting does make it very appealing and great for a dance, with the interior design quite a spectacle.

The People
Purple Pussycat attracts a mix of people, but that mix remains pretty stable. There are students, weekend warriors and those who can handle being naughty on a school night and still make it up for work in the morning. Many people spill over from Deansgate and there’s usually the odd older gentlemen in attendance, who likes to try it on with the younger girls. The crowd here is, almost always, an intoxicated one, with the bar fairly busy at all times and many drunken dancing girls around the pole. The atmosphere is at times brilliant, but also fairly intimidating if you haven’t had a drink yourself.

The Drink
There are a number of beers on tap, including Export and Kronenberg for about £3, plus various bottles like Corona. Spirits are a big seller here and you can pick up a vodka and Coke for under £3. Between 5 and 9pm, you can also pick up a bottle of house wine for £7.

The Last Word
If you are looking to have a dance in an intimate venue and have a laugh with friends, then this is the place. With sleazy disco, dirty electro and a pole to dance around, there is more than enough fun to be had.
