Massive Attack Headline Becks Fusions Event

Is September the new August? Well hang on a minute, there may be some truth in this. For one: Becks Fusions are hosting a free weekend of music and art in Castlefield on the 4th-6th September. In doing so they’re going some way to plugging the void left by the much missed D: Percussion (this traditionally took place in August, see what I mean?). Secondly, in recent years the weather in September has been some of the best of a miserable summer. So yeah, like it or not, September may well be the new August.

If you’re still bemoaning the fact that D:Percussion didn’t take place this year, then this event may well be what you’re looking for. Fresh from smacking it at the Southbank Centre, London during their self-curated Meltdown festival, Massive Attack have been booked to headline alongside notable talents from the worlds of music and art.

It all takes place down in the cobbled streets of Castlefield, so girls if you’re thinking of wearing heels, prepare for a world of pain, or think again. Castlefield is central Manchester’s best outdoor space – it doesn’t really have much competition to be fair. Piccadilly? You’re having a laugh. Seriously though, Castlefield is a superb outdoor space, which boasts bars like Dukes 92 and Barca, and it is one that’s perfectly suited to this kind of event. To gain entry you have to be randomly selected by the hosts, so head to www.becks.co.uk for your chance to attend for free, FREE, I tell you!

Apart from Massive Attack, you can see the likes of NYC’s Hercules And Love Affair and Santogold, who in the words and style of Mugatu from Zoolander is so hot right now! Local talent is represented in the shape of The Unabombers, aka The Elektrons. Pioneers of sweaty basement clubbing through their long running (and sadly defunct) Electric Chair event, it’s good to see some locals on the bill, even if it would have been nice to see some more artists reppin’ Manny.

More info on all of the artists and performances at Becks Fusions can be found at www.becks.co.uk. Make sure you sign up for your chance to take part in a truly international event. As the old saying goes, you’ve got to be in it to win it!
